Wee green shoots of hope

Winter’s back breaks mid-January, here, and February 2 is a fair date for the beginning of spring. We’ve ordered seeds and mini-polytunnels, asparagus crowns and rhubarb plants. The ground is unfrozen, the rain is coming down, my iris are !still alive!, and perhaps most amazing of all, my hellebores are blooming. Hip hip for early flowers, hip hip indeed.

  1. A mossy wonderland indeed. Meanwhile all my shoots are sleeping safely under an increasing layer of snow. And, when they finally push through, and bloom, it will snow on the daffodills just as it does every year. Meanwhile when I look through my window, the view is very close to black and white – with snow still coming down and the Chickadees reflect the black and white. But we will get spring, even in Northern Michigan.
