My husband and I recently made a trip to Oregon. We’re both accustomed to the east central region of the United States. While there are plenty of woodlands where we live, the land tends to be either flat or gently rolling and the forest is 100% deciduous. The mountains, cliffs, waterfalls and evergreens in Oregon–not to mention all of the moss–were breathtaking. I had just published Dark and Deep to Amazon, and while the settlement is in a place ecologically, climatologically and geologically similar to my familiar east-central, the Pacific northwest was inspiring.
